Summary

1) A discovery of a logo in the LogoWorks company portfolio which is a direct rip from a logo by Mark Fox - LOGOWORKS.com or LOGOWORST.com?

2) HOW forum members look closely at LogoWorks and come up with more, which are included in LOGOWORKS.COM RIP-OFFS.

3) 'The Prepared Mind' becomes the top blog/podcaster during the saga, coining the phrase 'LogoWorks or LogoJERKS?'

4) CMO, LogoWorks steps in and starts posting on the HOW mag forum. The exchange quickly deteriorates. "Now you went and pissed our designers off."

5) LogoWorks "Vonnie boy should start checking his mailbox in the next day or two. I learned in one of my communications law classes that the only defense for libel is... drum role, you guessed it... the truth."

6) Interview with a LogoWorks designer "I know for a fact that a regular practice is to find a logo that already exists and merely change it a bit and send it off.."

7) LogoWorks states they are putting better checks and balances into play, but "our sheer volume (over 30,000 customers) makes this issue particularly challenging for us" will indeed be an interesting challenge. I imagine many people around the internet will be watching to see what exactly gets put into place as it seems a near on impossible task to accomplish given their business model (see Robert Wurth's article LogoWorks: Who is to Blame? for a rounded look at the problem).

... formerly known as XEROX

From Von Glitshcka of Glitschka Studios:

- Online access: $49 a month

- Securing the usage rights to a national brand: $99

- Documenting that InstaLogo.com are weasels: Priceless

How many times in our life do we have the chance to secure and own a national brand for a mere $99? Well I now officially own the XEROX 'X'! Yep that's right it's all mine baby. I know I can here some of you Napoleon wannabes saying "LUCKY!"

How you ask? Easy I just went to Instalogo.com and purchased it for a measly $99!

After all it's a write off right? And I must say the gui was like butter and guilt free, I hardly needed to know how to design and in about 3 minutes I was provided with an instant downloadable vector eps file!

Oh the joy! I must now unfortunately send a 'Cease & Desist' letter to XEROX and inform them that what they falsely assumed to be theirs is now mine! All mine I tell you! Muhahahahahaha! (Well unless they login to InstaLogo.com and pay $99 too then I suppose we'd have to share it?)

But InstaLogo.com terms clearly state they still own the copyright to the art so I suppose I'll have to play nice? I am sure XEROX won't mind at all.

And how lovely it is? The vectors are so precise, the kerning and typeface are a carnival to my eyes. How can you not love it? A few seconds to type in my unique business name inside their gui and BINGO instant equity without having to spend a dime of advertising. You have to love it!

But how can I keep such a wonderful image to myself? I simply have to share the experience so all can ponder the marvel of automated hackery.

What did you just say? They don't own the XEROX mark? Surely you jest. No really you can't be serious. But their own terms state their ownership of the image so you must be mistaken. How do you know they didn't buy it off of XEROX? Why are you laughing at me? But they accepted my money and they wouldn't do that if it was stolen. You know as well as I do they are 'Professional Designers and the Best in the World' so I'll have to disagree with you. Why are you still laughing?
